The big deal with cerakote is you need a oven JUST for it. DO NOT bake it in your food oven. It has isocynides in the hardner. If you just want color fast, a rattle can will work and it can be removed with acetone Sure - but Cerakote has terrible UV protection compared to powder, cerakote color will wash out in less than year of being outdoors. FYI - Rustoleum properly applied vastly outperforms cerakote in outdoor applications. Early on - tested both cerakote / powder on my products for Jeeps / off-roadin' - powder won every time Duracoat and air dry or rattle can. ETA or the air dry Cerakote. Cerakote is prob the better option. Its a lot thinner than Duracoat. Well at least the bake on is not 100 percent sure on it. Daniel Defense has combined its Tornado and Mil Spec + Cerakote finishes to create Rattlecan, a striking new finish applied via stencil to give each DDM4V7 a subtly different and unique design. Cerakote is the way to go for a permanent job. If you want a semi-permanent job, try FDE or Patriot Brown and then spray can greens or what not over that. You can use stripper to remove the paint and leave the Cerakote behind, rinse, repeat. A nice and fast, easy way to camo a rifle with a decent base color to begin with I think cerakote looks amazing and I'm not knocking it, but I kinda like the customization possibilities and eventual wear aspects of the rattle can. Re: Cerakote and stainless? In the oven now. Decided to just do a single color instad of trying to do camo with this stuff, as I may not like the camo later. I figure OD green as a base, then camo up as I want with rattle cans. That way I can change it anytime Cerakote is better than a rattle can, but not indestructable. I'm in Califirnia, so theres a layer of dust in my holster which probably made the wear happen incrementally faster. Don't care enough to wipe down my holster, ever. In fact I kind of like the wear. Like a patina earned through honest use I had very good luck with applying Duracoat with a cheap HF air brush. If you can only use a rattle can, go with the Aluma-Hyde. Prep for either product is important, degrease thoroughly and rough up the original finish either with a grit blast or medium grit emery cloth. Re: Painting over Cerakote finish

I used DuraCoat and let it cure for seven days, very happy with the finish and durability. IMG_4302 2425×3595 2.07 MB Hi all, I've recently acquired a DDM4V7 with the factory Cerakote finish. I picked up the rifle with this finish since it was the only one in stock at the time. I'm not particularly fond of the bronze hue of the finish (I believe it's their Mil-Spec+ color), and I would like to apply a rattlecan spray paint job over the rifle Every winter I treat the rust on the sliders from all of the trail damage and rattle-can touch up the coating. It looks fine, no regrets with the powder coating (other than the expense.) Lately I've been using truck bed liner in a rattle can for touch-ups and I like it better than plain old enamel Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 LW Colorado Compliant Rattlecan Cerakote 5.56 16-inch No Magazine $ 1,264.90. This is the Colorado compliant version of the DDM4 V7 LW, which unfortunately means it doesn't come with a magazine, but it's no problem to grab. Rattle can spray paint jobs are popular because it's cheap and easy to just grab a couple cans from Home Depot, lay out some cardboard, and get creative. But the curing aspect of a proper cerakote project is enough to scare away most hobbyists from giving it a try at home

Cerakote does take heat to cure properly...and it stinks up the house in a major fashion. It seems to hold up to wear well, but make sure to NOT get any on close-tolerance parts, as it may cause issues. I can finish a part the night before I need to use it and it's a solid finish. The C-series doesn't have those benefits but it does blow the pants off commercial grade rattle-can results. But in my experience, the real sticking point that Cerakote seems to stress is that you need to properly media-blast and prep the underlying part IF it's in the chamber you can take a finish reamer, and lightly hand turn it to remove the cerakote, but be darn careful doing it. It's best to do it on a lathe, but many people buy the t-handle extension for a reamer and stick it right through the receiver Ha. If I was going to do one color and stick with it and it only, I would go cerakote or duracoat. I like the Alumahyde because it holds up very well, is in a rattle can, and can be removed semi-easily with the proper materials Pistol Cerakote - Copper Custom Armament. Description. Specification. King Cerakote. If you're not familiar with it, we can assure you that Cerakote—a thin, spray-on ceramic coating—is all the rage these days.
